Like the island itself, even landing on the runway at Arrecife airport is breathtaking and unusual. It’s not uncommon for planes to do an eagle-like swooping loop and, dependant upon which side of the plane you are on, you can get a fabulous aerial view of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Honda and the capital itself, Arrecife.
The runway runs parallel with the long, sandy beach of Playa Honda and it does feel like you skim the ocean before you touchdown. With the beach and ocean right beside you and (hopefully) the sun shining down on you the holiday feeling kicks in straight away.
